WordTwit is a new Wordpress plugin that’s would be very useful for twitterrers. It’s also a good way to promote your Wordpress blog on Twitter so that friends following you on Twitter but do not subscribe to your blog will know each time you put up a new blog post.
This is a great plugin for Twitter addicts but also pretty good for lazy twitterrers like me. I know it’s weird because I do post on my blog more often than I do at Twitter. So I figure it would make me look more active in Twitter if I use this plugin. My problem though is that I use Blogger for my personal blog…
You can download WordTwit here and see how it’ll look like.

If you haven’t heard of WordCamp yet and call yourself a Wordpress enthusiast then you’ll be happy to hear that it does exist. WordCamp is simply a group of Wordpress bloggers, designers, and developers that have come together to share their enthusiasm for Wordpress. Of course WordCamp is also supposed to be a sharing of ideas revolving around Wordpress but because of the mix of people you’ll find that though Wordpress is the main topic all kinds of ideas and experiences will be shared - from open source stuff to online politics.
The exciting thing about WordCamp UK is this year’s event will be the first held in UK. WordCamp UK is set to happen on July 19-20 in Birmingham. If you wish to attend though I couldn’t give more details since everything is still being worked out.
If you wish to keep track of the latest updates you can join the […]

So I installed the Seesmic video comments plugin and am giving it try. if you’ve got an account and a webcam leave a comment. If you don’t head over to Seesmic and create one. You can get the plugin and try it on your blog as well.
Youtube may be the dominant player in online video but without competition there isn’t innovation, I wonder if youtube ever would have come up with an idea like this

For those who do not take the time to even glance at the Wordpress Development blog snippets on their Wordpress dashboard I suggest you do take sometime to read their latest post on the upcoming Wordpress 2.5. I wouldn’t be going on any details since you can read everything on the sneak peek. So far though I can say that it seems to be looking good. I look forward to the customisable dashboard and the supposedly more intuitive navigation they promise. I’m holding off from giving a formal review though until I have actually tried it out, which I have no plans of doing until it is officially released (set to happen really soon).
If you want to be among the first to test it out though you can download the Wordpress 2.5 test version and join the Wordpress testers mailing list to help them smooth out the kinks.

I haven’t really had time to go over my mail these days and my inbox has A LOT of unread mail (not to mention the unread categorised mail that goes directly under their labels). As you know I subscribed to Joost’s WP and SEO mailing list and reading all the backlog at once is actually pretty nice. My favourite topics/tips so far are the ones below. I wouldn’t go into any details because you can subscribe to the mailing list if you want to get the plug-ins yourself. ^_^ However, I will explain just a bit why I loved these three topics.
Changing Post Slugs Without Risks (Redirection plug-in by John Godley) : The post slugs plug-ins would be very very very useful to me because I have a bad habit of clicking on the publish button BEFORE I edit posts (I know I shouldn’t do that but and I am […]

Been doing my usual round of reading and thought that I would share a couple of blog posts that caught my eye.
11 Tips for Appearing at Google Definitions by Esteban Panzera - The post outlines how you can define words in your site and have them appear as a search result in Google definitions. One thing I really love about Google is their definitions feature. Since I started using Google definitions my dictionary has not come out of hiding (in short I misplaced it). There are times though when the search result disappoints me and returns no definition. I usually end up thinking about how to (someday) contribute by adding definitions of terms that still didn’t appear in the results. Of course, I’ve never got around to doing it but this is why I though Esteban Panzera’s post was really cool. In fact the post was cool enough to make […]

I recently read a post by Lee Odden on how Wordpress classified blogs as either “popular” blogs or “banned” blogs. As the title suggests, SEO blogs actually fall under banned blogs. Gasp!
Not surprisingly the post generated a lively discussion where in some agreed with Odden about how the term SEO blog was misleading and with others not really taking any offense at all. Granted that Wordpress does make it clear that the SEO blogs they are actually referring to are NOT SEO blogs like ours (blogs with SEO as main topics) but “search optimised” blogs that aim to fool search engines (black hat) I still agree with Odden that if would be better if they called it “Search Engine Spam Blogs”.
SEO blogs: Blogs that are written for search engines instead of humans. These blogs are dedicated to trying to fool Google and other search engines into ranking them highly. WordPress.com […]

While doing some research for a presentation, I was checking out the WordPress.com site on “types of blogs” looking for creative ways to categorize them. And what did I come upon, but this page which separates blogs types into two overall categories of “popular” and “banned”. Guess where SEO blogs fall? Sigh.
Even our dear WordPress which so many search engine optimization professionals sincerely love and prefer as a blogging platform, is misinformed or at least, subject to making sweeping generalizations. This is the “banned” category:
And here are some examples of blogs that are banned from WordPress.com (all of these fall under the general heading of “spam blogs”, or splogs, and we will be deleted as soon as we find them or they get reported):
Scraper blogs: Blogs that take content from other blogs and re-publish it without permission (this is sometimes called scraping). If a blog contains all or mostly […]

Chris of Rillz Magazine wrote an interesting post on a Wordpress quirk that isn’t doing anything for your SEO. The ever helpful Wordpress uses the phrase “Read more” or “Continue reading” automatically at the end of post excerpts. This is useful since you want your readers to know that they have something more to read and that the post hasn’t ended. However, as Chris pointed out, in terms of SEO this is actually not a good thing because you want search engines to only rank relevant links. Links with generic terms in the anchor text does you no good in terms of SEO, and in fact will somehow show that your Wordpress blog is very much about “read” and “reading” due to the number of internal links containing these words as anchor text.
To combat this problem Chris suggests that you simply use to nofollow link attribute. You can read more […]

Back in July 2007 I posted “Scraping - How can I stop scrapers?” Joost had noticed that content on Phoenixrealm was being scraped and kindly let me know.
Joost has recently released “RSS Footer” a Wordpress plugin that gets the scraper working for you.
Nice!!
